The world of Dead by Daylight is wide, and the mysteries run deep. One need only follow the clues to discover dark secrets about The Entity’s Realm and beyond. Not only does Doomed Course introduce The Houndmaster and Taurie Cain, but it also explores the mysterious Black Vale, their deep connections to the characters you know, and the otherworldly phenomena known as Bleeds.
What Is The Black Vale?
There are those who dedicate themselves to The Entity, forming clandestine organizations spanning across the globe. The Black Vale is one such organization, with members having infiltrated various governmental institutions. It’s unknown how deep their influence pervades, but they remain steadfast in their devotion to The Entity.
Their malevolent aims have manifested in various ways, and seldom are their intentions easy to read. Names like Otto Stamper, founder of The Fold and mentor to one Herman Carter, have been linked to The Black Vale. Many who have disappeared into The Fog have experienced encounters with The Vale, and seldom do they end without bloodshed.
Prior to becoming The Artist, Carmina Mora was maimed by a hooded figure, seemingly serving The Black Vale. Occult-investigator Élodie Rakoto experienced a similar encounter, though she managed to escape unharmed. Charlotte and Victor Deshayes came face to face with several hooded figures , moments before vanishing into The Fog. It has even been rumored that The Vale was responsible for the shocking disappearance of award-winning architect Felix Richter.
To truly understand The Black Vale’s endgame, one must be unafraid to delve deep into the darkness and seek the knowledge they pursue. Some, perhaps even inadvertently, have embarked upon such a path. Haddie Kaur, host of the Ravages of the Abyss podcast, was driven to shed light on the unsettling secrets lurking in the shadows.
Named after the dark dimension that plagued her visions, Haddie’s obsession with the Ravages led her to some of the world’s most haunted places. Naturally, that placed her on a collision course with the Black Vale, who sought to learn more about The Entity’s dimension of suffering – albeit for entirely different reasons.
Nevertheless, Haddie’s relentless research occasionally centered around specific people, with one episode focusing on a bloodthirsty ship captain. Fragments of her notes indicate the captain was named Portia Maye, a ruthless seafarer who kept a canine companion and flayed pirates alive.
On the darker side of things, it was recently discovered a subsect of The Black Vale – identified as The Black Talon – has been conducting research of their own. Several recovered documents discuss the otherworldly phenomenon known as Bleeds, understood by some to be a tear between dimensions. Based on the documents shared below, it appears that at least two members of The Black Talon managed to successfully enter one such Bleed.
Their names were listed as Taurie Cain and Victor Cain, with a presumed relation between them. It’s worth noting that the former seemed to fare better than the latter, who suffered several injuries to both body and mind during his time inside The Bleed. Curiously, Taurie Cain appeared unaffected by The Bleed, sparking further questions about the seemingly selective nature of its effect. Was it merely misfortune, or something greater at work?
Though little is known about The Black Vale, their pursuits remain unrelenting. What role do they play in this danse macabre? And how do Portia Maye and the Cains fit into things? Were that Haddie was still here to investigate...but she, like all who run afoul of The Black Vale and their affiliates, is long gone.
