In a branching narrative filled with life-or-death choices, a second chance can mean everything.
The Casting of Frank Stone, available September 3rd, 2024 represents a handful of firsts for both Behaviour Interactive and Supermassive Games.
For us here at Behaviour, it’s the first true expansion of the Dead by Daylight universe after nearly a decade as part of the horror gaming landscape. It’s also our first foray into a single-player narrative experience built around our lore. For our partners at Supermassive Games, it’s their first time working within a pre-existing world to craft their story, as well as introducing a collection of never-before-seen features that aim to give you more ways to play than ever before.
In The Casting of Frank Stone, you decide the fate of four friends in the summer of 1980 and guide their shoot of Murder Mill, a soon-to-be cult classic with an insidious influence.
Check out our Features Trailer below, then read on for a deep dive on each feature.
Cutting Room Floor
This brand-new feature drops you directly into the director’s chair, offering unprecedented control over the final cut of your story. With 16 available final sequences and 185 possible branches to explore, there are a lot of ways things can go for our characters – and a lot of ways they can go very, very wrong.
The Cutting Room Floor provides a branching map that unlocks as the game is played. It allows you to return to key decision points in the story, and even track down collectibles you may have missed. Can’t live with your choices? Easily reload pivotal moments, experience new narratives, and uncover different endings.
Instantly accessible with purchase of the game’s Deluxe Edition, or unlockable upon completion of a first playthrough of the Standard Edition, the Cutting Room Floor acts as the ultimate feature for those who wonder what may have been.
Twitch Integration
Horror stories are often at their best as a communal experience. There’s something inherently fun about sharing a scare and arguing with your friends about what you might have done in the same situation.
The Casting of Frank Stone’s new Twitch Integration makes it easier than ever to recreate that experience for anyone streaming the game on Twitch. Thanks to this feature, viewers will see every choice that crops up in the game overlaid onto the stream. For Twitch partners, this will happen via Polls, and for non-partners it will use chat. Viewers will then have a short time to cast their vote on which choice to make, with the majority deciding the characters’ next actions.
The streamer will also have the chance to steer the ship with a limited number of “vetoes” to override viewer voting should they wish.
Plunderer’s Instinct
Plunderer’s Instinct is yet another helpful feature, instantly accessible for anyone who pre-orders the game’s Deluxe or Standard Editions. It can also be unlocked after the first playthrough, but instant access is only available as a pre-order bonus.
Throughout The Casting of Frank Stone, mysterious collectibles hide in the shadows of each environment waiting to be discovered by those with a keen eye.
Activating Plunderer’s Instinct sends a ripple of energy through the world around you, highlighting the aura of Trinket Chests containing molded metal keepsakes. Gather as many as you can to see them displayed in Collector’s Cases – interactable boxes that can be found in every explorable environment. A perfect feature for horror-loving completionists.
8MM Camera
A new gameplay mechanic unique to The Casting of Frank Stone, the 8MM Camera starts off as a simple part of the story before becoming much more.
Purchased at a local curiosity shop in 1980 to replace their own broken camera, the young filmmakers soon discover the lens has the power to bring the supernatural into focus. As you’re hunted by an invisible eldritch danger, the camera crackles with arcane energy, revealing the hidden evil to those brave enough to peer through the viewfinder. You'll need to periodically wind the camera to continue tracking the dark presence that stalks you.
Couch Co-op
Taking that shared horror experience in another direction, Supermassive Games’ Couch Co-op feature is back for The Casting of Frank Stone.
Pile your friends onto the couch and pass the controller back and forth as the character perspective changes throughout the game. Perfect for 2-4 friends looking to venture into the unknown together.
The Casting of Frank Stone comes out on September 3rd, 2024. Pre-order now to get instant access to the Plunderer’s Instinct feature.
