Inspired by the memory of her best friend Emily, who was fatally electrocuted while performing at the interactive Haunted House experience they organized, Orela dedicated her life to saving those in need.
“A frayed wire shorted out and Emily didn’t shriek but went rigid as her face contorted into a silent scream. There were sparks and smoke and the smell of burnt meat. Miraculously, Emily was still alive after Orela pulled the plug. They called for an ambulance and as they waited, Emily’s breathing grew shallower. In his gratitude, he offered to fund the dream that Orela and Emily once shared – to open Screams In The Dark, an immersive dining experience inspired by Barra’s classic novels.
Sleep be damned, Orela plunged headfirst into her two jobs, not wanting one to impact the other. Thanks to its unique presentation and immersive atmosphere, Screams quickly became a local community favourite. Its success was bittersweet; while Orela was happy to bring her and Emily’s dream to fruition, her best friend wasn’t there to see it thrive. The weight of that reality was heavy, but Orela kept it moving, never losing sight of her goal.
