In 2025, Dead by Daylight unveiled The Grimoire, an ongoing initiative that brought the community into the Chapter creation process like never before. For the first time, your votes will directly impact the Killer and Survivor of an upcoming Chapter, influencing everything from gameplay to design.
Each month, you are invited to visit the Grimoire web page and vote on a variety of different topics, with the outcomes determining elements of the Chapter's development.
The results were shared across our social pages for everyone to follow.
What Did You Choose?
The first phase of the project revolved around selecting the character backgrounds, motivations, and the general mechanics of the Killer’s Power.
On the Killer side, the community voted for an Otherworldly character. It was decided this Killer would be Divine in nature, marking a thematic first for Dead by Daylight.
The general concept of its Power was also decided, with you resonating with the idea of pursuing and punishing sinners. Once the Power’s overall direction was chosen, the team broke the more nuanced design elements into four separate categories, allowing players freedom to build it from the ground up.
As of this moment, the team remains hard at work bringing this Power to life – much to the dismay of sinners across The Fog. Expect additional progress updates to be shared across our social channels soon.
On the Survivor side, the character was chosen to be a spiritual scientist , driven to find meaning in the divine, among the lone survivors of an apocalyptic reality. Evidently, this apocalypse was brought on by none other than the Killer, marking a haunting personal connection between the characters.
What Happens Next?
With production already underway, phase 2 of the Grimoire kicked off in December. This phase will delve deeper into concept arts, mood boards, and much more. For a more detailed look at everything we’ve got scheduled, check out the roadmap below.
As of today, a new vote has officially kicked off. These pieces will offer a first look at the Killer’s potential silhouette , as well as several different options for the Survivor’s face.
